York Microlight Centre is based at Rufforth Airfield East, an ex-RAF base which has been in private use since the late 60's. Massive paved runways mean we are never waterlogged in winter and unlike many other sites which have limited time restrictions, dawn to dusk flying for 365 days a year is possible!
Excellent covered hangarage is available and aircraft maintenance is also on hand.
Excellent classroom facilities with clubhouse and cafe.
Rufforth Airfield East is only 10 minutes from the A1 by car and only 2 miles from the historic City of York, with on-site and local accommodation. Fantastic scenery of The Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and stunning coastline are all within 1 hour's flying.
Arriving by Road
The entrance to the airfield is off the B1224. From the York Ring Road take the B1224 signposted Rufforth/Wetherby and look for the large green building on the left (K&J Logistics) and it is then the 2nd turning on your left (just beyond the entrance to Harewood Whin)
Approaching from Wetherby on the B1224 go through Rufforth village and look for the second entrance on your right. The entrance is shared with the Rufforth Playing Fields Association; pass the tennis courts and you will see the sign and buildings ahead of you.
Please don’t confuse us with the Ouse Gliding Club, which is on Rufforth Airfield WEST, and is accessed from the Rufforth - Askham Richard Road.
